Calculating the actual Speaker to Mic distance
« on: September 05, 2011, 17:57 »
I was taking a few test measurements of my Studio monitors and noticed that that SATLive was calculating an excessive amount of Delay for the 3 ft distance the measurement Mic was set from the Monitor. Obviously this extra delay is the system delay added by my SAC Digital Mixing system. So... If I want to obtain a distance measurement of just the Speaker to Mic....is there a way of subtracting my system delay from the overall delay so what the Delay Finder shows is the actual Speaker to Mic distance? How would I go about this?

Hi,

The simplest way would be to take the reference signal right from the output of the SAC system. This still leaves the group-delay of the speaker itself in the mesaurement.

An other approach would be to put the mic as close as possible to the high-frequency driver and run delay-finder. After that, use the MAT - impulse-response measurement to measure delay. In this case the quality of a frequency response measurement will be affected.
