Spl Calibration question
« on: July 05, 2011, 13:05 »

just a question about absolute spl calibration with Satlive. In the process of calibrating the spl reading of satlive is setting levels of reference and measurement signals (before the calibration) at the same level necessary? and is necessary to calibrate the spl reading using the reference signal at -12 dBFS?(the usual operating level of the software)

thanks Massimo

Hi Massimo,

- The dB-Spl reading (and calibration) is related to the mic/measurement channel only. So there is no need to match the levels of the inputs.
- The level used for calibration influences (in conjunction with the dB value used) the maximium value of SPL. If you calibrate at -12dB fs, the maximun SPL is reference value + 12dB. In reality it is even less, due to the crest factor of the input signal. So take care to provide enough headroom.
